While a major US audio company featuring broadcast, podcast, digital, social, and events was dominating their industry, the existing sales technology platform was not keeping up. Fragmentation and inefficiencies were costing time and money — and giving competitors an opening to move in. Knowing that speed-to-market and the ability to adapt and innovate were key to maintaining their market dominance, the company reached out to CI&T to make improvements that would keep them at the top of their industry.

Dual legacy challenges: technology and mindset

A legacy tech stack was
a critical challenge,

with each of 150 advertising markets having its own server that handled only that market’s ads for broadcast, podcast and digital. Lacking agility and connectivity, the existing platform created operational silos, impeded timely communication with clients, and made it difficult to innovate.

There were opportunities to increase agility

by streamlining the integration between business areas and the technology group, which could contribute to reducing the lead time for launching new features and products. At the same time, there were clear opportunities to optimize advertising inventories, therefore improving turnaround times to generate sales proposals.

Piece by piece: improving existing functionality, adding new features

As we delved into the engagement, the CI&T team realized that there were two keys to success:

The first was to unify inventory across a single platform, creating one tool that would enable the company’s sales team to sell every product to every market they served.

2.

The second was to increase the pace of innovation to better serve both internal and external customers.

To accomplish both, CI&T worked with the company’s in-house IT team to not only modernize the foundation platform, but also improve apps by creating new features demanded by the business base. Each successful product or feature rollout helped build confidence in the CI&T approach, helping to shift the legacy mindset.
